Personalised Learning, with differentation of teaching and learning to the learning needs and styles of each student, is at the heart of the pedagogical framework of Rivers International School Arnhem Secondary.
Personalised Learning entails 21st century teaching and learning for all students to gain the skills, the breadth and depth of knowledge they require within an increasingly global world. We view ICT as an important enabler of personalised learning and are integrating a 1:1 iPad Personalised learning system.
At the basis of personalisation or differentiation lies the testing of Cognitive Abilities of student in MYP4 and DP1 (and in the last year of the primary department). A dedicated learning skills training in MYP2 and DP1 helps the students learn efficiently and productively.
Finally, we believe our education needs to meet the requirements of the 21st century society. Information literacy and ICT-skills are essential for our students in an increasingly digital world and in future professions. Teaching students information literacy is an important task for schools. ICT-skills are required of students, not only in secondary schools, but also at Universities and Colleges and in their later professional lives.
At Rivers we believe that pupils should take active ownership of their learning. One expression of this are our so-called Trilateral Talks. Instead of Parent-Teacher Meetings, twice a year pupils prepare and give a presentation to their parents and tutors in which they reflect on and evaluate their learning and define targets for further development throughout the academic year.
